How do I type with proper accents and punctuation?
For desktop and laptop computers:
Typing with Spanish accents and special punctuation in Fluencia is easy! We’ve set up the program so that when you press and hold down the normal key on your keyboard, a bar will pop up with all the different options for that key. You can then select the accent or symbol you need. For example, if you want to type "é", just press and hold the "e" key on your keyboard. A little bar will pop up like this:
Once you see that bar, let go of the "e", press the number you want (in this case, number 2), and the letter will automatically change to "é". The same goes for inserting upside down exclamation points and question marks. Just press Shift + 1 or Shift + / like you normally would for typing those symbols in English, except this time, just hold the key combination a little longer than normal. The punctuation mark will automatically flip upside down.
For mobile devices:
You will need to make sure that you are not releasing your touch on the screen too soon. When you want to insert an accented character, touch and hold the letter that you need (or the punctuation mark for the ¡ and ¿), then when the bar of options pops up you will need to maintain your touch on the screen and slide your finger over to the character that you want. When your finger is on top of the correct character, then you can release your touch to insert that letter or symbol.
It will look similar to this:
You can also turn the requirement for accents off in your Fluencia profile (under the menu in the upper righthand corner of the screen). Once you are in your profile, scroll down to the "Settings" section at the bottom of the page. There will be a checkbox that says "Require accents" that you can uncheck, click "Save", and they will no longer be required.
